It does have strong repellants that may be irritating - or unsafe for an animal that licks it off. I would not use it on myself and even wash my hands after putting it on the horse.
Crista VYes, it works very well. And my horse tolerated it being put on his face , around his eyes and ears. He hated the spray, even if I would spray it on my hands and pet him. He had an eye issue and the bugs would always fly to that area but this repelled them. He did not mind the roll on and it kept the bugs away.

Good for bugs on their face
Farnam Roll on works, and is easy to use around delicate areas of eyes/nose instead of a fly spray.
