Excellent hoof supplement, 2/3/2013

Sara from Helena, Montana

My horse had big chunks of hoof wall falling off every time we pulled a shoe. The walls were thin and very fragile, peeled/cracked easily, and couldn't hold shoes very well. She has been on HS for 7 months now, and the difference is amazing. The hoof walls are incredibly thick and sturdy, and she hasn't lost a shoe since we put her on the supplement. The farrier started to notice a difference in the new hoof growing from the coronet band after about 6 weeks of use. Now the old hoof wall has almost completely grown out and you can easily see the difference in the hoof. I feed the pellets straight without any grain. My horse is somewhat picky but loves these pellets. Definitely worth a try with your horse, but don't expect to see major changes in new hoof growth for at least a month.

Not worth the money, 1/6/2013

Robin S from Southern CA

In researching dozens of different supplements, taking into consideration price, types ingredients, and level of concentration of active ingredients, I've found that Horseshoer's Secret is far below competitive. I was shocked to find that it's main active ingredient is provided in a dose the is less than half of what most other hoof supplements are providing. I'd been using this on several horses with no problems, until I got in 2 horses with problem feet. After a couple months, my shoer asked me to try something else and after trying 2 other products and doing a bunch of research, I found Nu-Hoof Maximizer. In about 60 days we had marked improvement. I've taken everyone off Horseshoer's Secret simply because it doesn't even provide as much active hoof supplement for the money vs. many other supplements. I found Nu-Hoof Max to be the best in the mid-price-range, and have found it to work significantly better than the others I've tried.

My farrier recommended this product and within about two weeks of feeding this everyday I could tell a huge difference. My horse's feet were dry and cracked. Now they are moisturized and are a lot harder and durable.

Great Product, 7/4/2012

Nikki from Bourbon, Mo

I have used more expensive and different brands. However Farnam will continue to keep my business gor years to come. I have used this product on all my horses ranging from a 2 yr old all the way to a 37 yr old. With all the same results great hooves, less cracks, stronger frog, and superb walls. This is an excellent product, please be aware if your going off of recommendations give this product about 4 months before your going to see the full effects of it. As my Arab gelding's feet were in horrible condition, they grew very slowly and he was quick to grind them down to nothing because of this. Horseshoer's Secret, built his hoof up. I never put shoes on him again after about 6 months on this product. I also feed to a Stallion with a stress founder in one hoof, keeps the hoof growing excellent with added health to the hoof and his coat and body condition agrees with it too vs. other hoof supplements I have fed. I seen little change in the hooves and the rest of the body was not benefiting from it. Only downside if you have a horse that is an extremely easy keeper and does not get grain, they are not too fond of eating this alone without grain.

Didn't work well for me, 12/1/2011

HOLLY LANSFORD from Alabama

I used this product for three months instead of my regular product and in only one month of being off my regular product and on this one their hoof were dry, brittle and flaky and got progressively worse over a three month period. Upon going back to my origional supplement their hoofs began to grow good new hoof rapidly with no additional hoofs. Therefore I would not recommend this product to anyone myself but some people say it works for them.

Excellent Product, 11/8/2011

APRIL from Edwardsville, IL

I purchased a thoroughbred gelding of the track on May 30th. The previous owner had just pulled his shoes. He was a little ouchy at the time, but contributed it to just having his shoes pulled. Two weeks later he was still sore, so I had the farrier check his feet. It turned out he had a fungus that entered thru the nail holes and invaded the hoof wall. The farrier said it would probably be at least late October before he would be better because we needed to let the hoof grow out to get rid of it. His hooves started to break off so badly that he would not even walk out of his stall! A friend at the local tack store recommended HHS. It was a miracle! He was sound by the 1st week of September because his hooves grew so quickly. He also loves the stuff- thinks it is a treat! P.S.-Another owner at the same barn had a ottb with same problem the previous year and did not put him on a hoof supplent. It was well over 6 months before her horse was sound enough to ride!

Horse Hoof Saver, 7/19/2011

tikaboo123 from Long Beach, CA

My belgian cross had terrible feet with significant cracks, big chips and couldn't keep shoes on. She has been on and off this product several times and whenever she is off her hoofs are like shredded wheat! Even a short time on the product makes the difference in having solid usable feet.

Horseshoer's Secret, 7/13/2011

Chris from Washington

We have to horses that are outdoors 24/7. The winters here are wet and cause concerns for foot care. Put our girls on this last Nov to help keep them healthy. No complaints from us or farrier. We feed it before morning mash to ensure they eat the full dose. They gobble it right down.

bad taste, 11/2/2010

ruth from chippewa wi

It does have a distint smell and from a horse that used to neigh and come running at grain time to a horse having to be caught and led then dropping feed looking around and walking away not finishing her feed. That tells me a lot. I even added more grain she doesn't need to blend in-doesn't matter. I hope to see results because I plan to finish making her eat what I have purchased for her hooves sake but don't plan to buy more.

Horseshoer's Secret, 10/14/2010

Reinhardt from Manitowoc, WI

We own a Belgian gelding, who had horrible feet when he was acquired. After less than a year on Horseshoer's Secret, his feet started to improve, remarkably! Our farrier has suggested 'taking a movie' of the big guy's feet. He stated they are THEE BEST feet, of all Draft horses he works on. HSS is completely palatable and has made a huge difference in Clyde's feet. During the Winter he is rasped every four weeks; Summer, he's shod/reset every eight weeks. This is the greatest supplement on the market, for bad/chippy/thin feet and we recommend it for all horses, in particular Drafts.

Great product!!, 6/19/2010

Resa and Honey from

My Horse Honey, is a Palomino and has extreamly soft feet, our Farrier recommended Horseshoer's Secret for us and we never looked back. I've used this product on 2 different horses over the past 2 years and have gotten the same result for both, harder feet, if you are looking for a good supplement to feed, look no further and try this product!!!

Great hoof supplement, 6/5/2010

Molly from

My12 year old Quarter Horse began having hoof wall weakening about a year ago. I tried another supplement recommend by my vet that had the certain ingredients he said would aid in hoof strength. It worked but it was really hard to feed to my horse, he hated the taste so it became a battle every day. When researching for a different supplement with the same ingredients that my vet recommended I found Horseshoer's Secret. It was very easy to feed my horse I didn't even have to mix it with anything. After three months I can see a difference.

works great, 10/9/2009
from Alabama

My horse had a very large crack in his back hoof from an injury. I have been using this product for 10 months. The crack is now smaller in width and the top inch of his hoof is now solid. This product in conjunction with proper farrier care is working great.

seems to do the job, 5/4/2009

Tatiana from California

My horse was having terrible cracking problems and could not keep shoes. I had to pull the shoes but after putting him on this stuff he seemed to harden up really nicely and only has the occasional chip even with no shoes on! I say it really works. Definately recommend for the price.

Worth A Try!, 12/5/2008

Sherry from Libertyville, IL

I have been using this product for 6 months and have seen a marked difference in my horses hooves. My geldings hooves kept cracking and splitting off long before it was time for a trim. Since using this product there is a lot less cracking and my farrier has noticed a difference in the hoof strength. He has started recommending the product to his other clients. It really works!

Great Product, 10/20/2008

Donna from Oakland MS

This is the best hoof builder on the market. I have used it for 3 months now and my farrier has noticed and commented on the condition f my horses feet. I had a mare that had thin hoof walls and that is why I used it. If you use it like it is recommended. It works.

Really Works, 6/23/2008

Janet from Richmond, IL

Have used this product for years on my QHs, one with small feet and low heals (halter type) and one with flared feet and thin walls. This product has kept their feet in good strong condition, helping to manage their issues. Regretfully one time I made the mistake of switching to a cheaper brand (actually costing more) that I started buying at the feed mill out of sheer convenience. I used the cheaper product for about 6 months before I realized how bad my horses feet were getting. Even my shoer noticed the change. Well of course went back to H.S.S. and we are back on track with healthy hooves again. By the way, the pellets are easy to feed and taste great.

Smart Investment, 6/6/2008

from Hastings, MI

I have been very happy with this product. My horse is a very finicky eater and he eats this supplement willingly even without grain. I have definitely noticed a gradual improvement in his hooves. Improvement does not happen overnight, but product claims healthier hoof growth in 6-8 months. Relatively inexpensive and worth the investment, but plan on committing to use it over the long-term to see results.

Awsome!, 9/1/2007

Emily from Arizona

I used this product on my three horses and it worked great. My ferrier told me that between the time he had last come out and now my horses feet improved tromendously. He also said that my horses had the best hooves that he had ever seen, and were the easiest to clip and cut. All of this happened because I fed my horses Farnems Horseshorses Seacrete!
