Wonderful, order a size down!, 1/1/2013

SP from Alabama

Cob fits a 17 hand Saddlebred. Stiff but becomes softer with use and cleaning/conditioning. Sturdy and great for everyday use, handsome enough to bring to a show.

very pleased, 12/17/2012

LE from Osceola, WI

As the other reviews stated I also ordered a Cob size for my Quarter Horse. I have adjusted it to its smallest buckle fittings and still very roomy for my mare. I also ordered the name plate and the two together are very sharp. Halter is very heavy, sturdy. Rich dark chocolate. It is stiff but for the price you cant go wrong.

Good halter, weird sizes., 10/17/2012

Sorcha B. from Billings, MT

This halter is awesome for the price. The leather is thick and the color is nice. Good hardware and stitching. The sizes run big though. I ordered smaller because of the other reviews, and the cob size fits my horse's normal size head perfectly. Order a size small.

Sizing is funny, 9/12/2012

MB from Middleburg, FL

I got my halter yesterday. I have a five month old weanling filly who comfortably wears her two nylon weanling halters with no problem. I ordered her a weanling halter here and it is the same size as her newborn halter. I will say though that the quality is nicer than I was expecting for the price. I have ordered the next size up and am now hoping it is not too big.

Great Leather Halter!, 7/26/2012

Meagan from Manchester, MI

I love this halter! The Cob size is pretty accurate. I was worried that it wasn't going to fit my horse because he is between a cob and an average and everything fits him differently. This one is spot on, no extra holes needed! The brass hardware seems to be pretty strong, the leather is thick, I have no complaints there. I'm not sure why most of the comments are so negative, maybe a bad batch of leather? No idea. (Maybe don't buy it for a horse that has a knack for ruining halters? Buy that horse a nylon halter, or a rope training halter instead) This halter is far nicer than any leather halters I have seen in tack stores around here. I was apprehensive about buying it just because the cheaper ones I have thought about buying in person were of such poor quality. This one is very nice. I immediately put some saddle oil on it and started flexing the leather and it's great, not stiff at all. The color is great, too! Nice deep chocolate brown. I'm looking forward to years of use. I love it, my horse loves it, and he looks great in it. It looks better than my friend's $80 leather halter!

Weak, stiff, and the sizing is off, 7/8/2012

Jordan Alter from West Wendover

I have a Thoroughbred who runs a size 'average' in every halter he's been in. I bought this as an average. After I drilled extra holes in it, it was still way to big. It was also pretty stiff and the leather was cracked at the ends. I was thinking I could at least use it as my grooming halter so it wasn't a complete waste of money. Wrong. The wind spooked my horse as he was tied up, It took one pull and the metal under his chin broke, and the chinstrap was ripped. Honestly, he didn't pull very hard, and even if it did, it shouldn't have gave at the first tug. Because of the reviews, I had decent hopes for this halter, but I'm not impressed at all. I'm going back to the nylon weaver halters. Cheaper and more durable.

Pretty great halter., 6/24/2012

Breana.C from Nashville, TN

I did a review right after I got this halter, before I took it out to the barn. It runs very large on my TB, but like I said before you can punch new holes, which I did. I have this halter outside almost 24/7 since my horse is pasture boarded. It still looks great! Although it's stiff, It's not so bad. It's held up great so far, and has an amazing price!

Waste of shipping Charges, 6/21/2012

D&D Quarter Horses from Reevesviile, SC

This halter looks nice for the money BUT.........I ordered a weanling halter for my 2 month old colt who is still comfortably wearing hiscriss croos "baby" halter and it wouldn't even fit on his head!!! at 5.99 shipping then return shipping then another 5.99 shipping that DOUBLES the cost of the halter and stateline will not waive shipping even though the product is not what is advertised!

Decent Halter for a great price!, 3/29/2012

Sam from WI

I've had this halter for a little over two months now, i only use it in the stable and do not turn him out in it. I have oiled it alot since it was pretty stiff when i got it, it has softned up nicely. I doubt this would hold up for turn out though. I own a halter that is padded and 79 dollars and people ask me which ones costs more, im impressed with the quality of the leather in such a cheap halter. here is a picture of my horse in the halter, put the URL into the browsing bar then click 'enter' to view the image of him in it. http://i4.ytimg.com/u/gJrsPxHJsNmqcxZjbr1zcg/channels3_background.jpg?v=4f74f636

Good Halter for the cost, 2/28/2012

Samia from Milwaukee, WI

i just recieved my halter today and it looks nice. the hardware is nice and sturdy. the leather looks much higer quality than in the picture. It is very thick dark choclate leather. i love it! it is stiff though so i do recomend oiling it. wouldn't recomend as a turnout halter because im sure this would get destroied in no time when horses play 'halter tag'. but other than that, i like it.

Runs Large, 2/20/2012

LindaK from Xenia, Ohio

Beautiful Halter for the price. Runs large. Swallowed my average horse's head whole. My friend told me that she was going to order her Tenn Walker one and I advised her to get a cob size. It fit him beautifully. Looks very attractive with the brass name plate. I am going to sell mine and reorder a cob size for my boy.

Winstonsmom from Xenia, Ohio

Beautiful halter. Does seem to run a bit large, but well worth the price. Next one I order sill be the cob size, but I will take this one to the leather repair man in town and have him cut it down a little. Looks very handsome on him.

It's so pretty!, 12/26/2011

Breana from Nashville TN

I haven't taken it out to the farm yet, but it's beautiful! It looks heavy duty, and really nice. It's double stitched and nice chocolate brown color. Although it's a little bit big, you can always drill new holes in it.

GREAT for the price, 11/28/2011

IZZEY NANNINGA from Springfield, MO

I was kinda surprised at how nice this halter was for under $20. Its NOT a $80 halter but if you want a nice leather halter without breaking the bank this is it!...I do think it runs a little large but I just added a hole on the brow band and its fine! I was very pleased with it! And its very handsome on my big QH.

Really Disappointed, 11/26/2011

GINA from Fairless Hills, PA

Purchased on customer reviews and with 50 years of horse experience, this has been the worst leather halter that I have purchased. Arrived very stiff and with numerous applications of leather softening oil, the horse size that I ordered is no better then when it arrived. I am a business horse owner and worked on numerous commercial horse farms and I think that this is the worst low budget leather halter that I have purchased. I know that there are better products out on the market for the same price. Wanted to try and sorry that I did.

RiderJo from Lancaster

To me, in the picture it looks black, real life, most definitely brown. It's great but pretty stiff at first- nothing some oil can't handle. This is exactly the quality I was expecting for the price. It looks great, is function and decent quality.

Was delighted to receive this halter in the mail for my new pony. I wasn't expecting much for the price but it is so nice I am going to order him another for going to shows, not just everyday wear. Use to paying $80 up for decent leather halter with solid brass and snap throat. Thanks!!!

Great halter for the price, 11/29/2010

AMANDA LINDBERG from short gap, wv

I was a little learly of ordering a leather halter under twenty dollars, figuring I would get some cheap, plasticy thing but I was pleasantly surprised when this arrived. The leather quality was good, as is the stitching and with brass hardware, a rolled throat, and adjustable nose I was really impressed. My rescue tb now fits in at the fancy hunter barn and it didn't cost me a fortune. Highly reccomened.

be careful what size you order, 7/29/2010

Valerie Thomas from

Received the weanling size halter today. Needed it badly because our 3 month old filly has outgrown her foal halter and has not been wearing a halter for a week. I have to send it back for a bigger size. It actually is about the same size as our foal halter. Couldn't even get it on her head it is so small. Other than the size it looks nice and seems like good quality for the price. Be sure to order a size bigger than what you need.
